Flavorpill + Jelly = Delish

Wed May 14, 2008 at 3:43 pm by in Office Life

jelly.jpg

This Friday, Flavorpill HQ is hosting a Jelly event. Forget about PB&Js for a moment: a Jelly is casual coworking — we invite people to work from our space for the day, providing chairs and sofas, wireless internet, and of course, interesting people to talk to, collaborate with, and bounce ideas off of (that would be us, your fearless Flavorpill employees). Jelly is a pretty cool way to engage in and give back to the cultural/tech/creative community by offering up a positive, free place to work for a day. If all goes well, folks will talk, connections will be made, and constructive things will come from it (like our next big hires, partners, etc.). Ten-to-twelve freelance/startup/creative types (our favorites!) will camp out around our conference room, and go about their day, working on all sorts of projects. Get the 411 on our guests, and stay tuned for a post-Jelly redux on our day.

The most recent issue of Boldtype took a hard look at the meaning of the portrait — from a micro-history of Chinese food by New York Times foodie Jennifer 8. Lee to a memoir of controversial Bishop Paul Moore Jr. by his daughter. The issue also features reviews of Richard Price’s new novel, Lush Life, Aleksander Hemon’s The Lazarus Project, an interview with novelist A.M. Homes, and a feature on oral history archivist Studs Terkel.

Flavorpill DNCs HRD

dnchrd2.jpg

On Tuesday, May 20th, LVHRD hosts its fourth DNCHRD competition, a marathon dance-off that’s more manic than the prom scene in Grease. The event features six teams of color-coordinated dancers, and everyone is invited to participate — so long as you’re monochromatically attired and properly enthused. Flavorpill’s own Leah Taylor is captain of the green team, so may we suggest emeralds, eco-chic, and Kermit-the-Frog costumes? Green is officially the new black.

If your city has a post office, it probably has a biennial. São Paolo, Sydney, New York (via the Whitney), Havana, Venice, Paris… it’s a bit much for any art lover to digest. But, chin up: Flavorpill sister-publication Artkrush has your back with a brand-spankin’-new image gallery and issue #83. This week, we discuss the 5th Berlin Biennial for Contemporary Art inside Mies van der Rohe’s iconic Neue Nationalgalerie and other venues throughout the city. Peruse work by contributor Paulina Olowska, then sit in on a conversation between Mexico City-based artist Daniel Guzmán and AK contributor Anna Altman, as we discuss his work for BB5 and a new show with Steven Shearer at the New Museum.
